Gen Con Indy ’08 Is Here
This weekend, Indianapolis will welcome some 85,000 for the latest in the convention’s 41 year history. GenCon is the annual convention for gamers and fans of science fiction, fantasy and CosPlay. It’s been exclusively in Indianapolis since 2003 and will remain there through 2010. The privately held company that owns GenCon has been having financial and legal problems, so it’s future past 2010 is up in the air.
Visitors to GenCon ’08 will spend about $30 million at shops and restaurants, and use more than 16,000 hotel room nights, according to the Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association.
Attendees must buy badges to enter. A single-day badge is $45, and a four-day badge is $75. Children 8 and younger are free with an adult. Sunday, it’s $25 for a family of four. The exhibit hall at the Indiana Convention Center will open each day at 10 a.m., and close today, Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. On Sunday, it closes at 4 p.m. However, gaming will continue 24 hours a day.
